Buildbase BMW Motorrad rider Richard Cooper retains 'Stars at Darley' title
Richard Cooper carried on his winning ways with another demonstration of short circuit mastery. Having topped the practice and qualifying times at sub lap record pace, Coopers pole starts only helped confirm the inevitable - two wins from two starts and the 2011 title.
Despite a good turnout from the other 'Stars' riders including John McGuinness, Keith Amor, Ian Lougher, Luke Stapleford plus the regular Darley Championship riders, it was Buildbase team mate Barry Burrell who showed any real threat. Barry piled on the pressure with similar qualifying and race times but not quite enough to affect the outcome as Richard won both races with a lead of three and five seconds in the two race meeting.
Richard said ''Two Superbike wins and a new lap record- not a bad days work!, but Barry pushed me all the way in both races. Great work from the whole Buildbase BMW Motorrad Team made this weekend a huge success for us.''
The enjoyment of the meeting could have been a far different scene had the teams recently stolen bikes not been found. But thanks to an eagle eyed biker, the Championship winning Superstocker and Superbike were found abandoned under a tarpaulin in a Leicestershire field. Despite some damage, the Superbike was rapidly sorted for this weekends Darley meeting.
Team boss Stuart Hicken said “I am absolutely thrilled that we have got the bikes back in one piece.
“The other items that were stolen are still missing and so the search for them goes on. But at least with the bikes back we can carry on racing starting with this weekend’s Stars at Darley meeting, which will also give us an opportunity to test the bikes in readiness for the final British Superbikes round at Brands Hatch.”
The next and final meeting of both the year, and the BSB calendar is on from the 7th to the 9th October at Brands Hatch where Richard will have a busy weekend riding in both Superstock and Superbike classes where he hopes to continue his good form.
