After some inclement weather in qualifying, Richard is 'relatively' happy with his result (8th) in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race this morning after being third fastest in morning warm up.

Starting the race from the middle of the grid, Richard gradually fought his way through the pack until a big slide saw him relegated from fifth to eighth right at the death.

"Although I didn't quite get the result I wanted this weekend I'm pleased with the performance of the bike and know that I'm in for a competitive season," said Coop.

"The day started really well as I was third quickest in warm up so I was confident I had the pace for a good race. I didn't have a good start so I couldn't get away with the leaders as planned but my speed was good and I quickly got myself up to fifth after a few laps.

"I was pretty much holding station until three laps before the end when I had a big slide coming out of Clearways and ended up losing momentum and a couple got past me. I suppose eighth place is not bad for our first race on a new bike and it's good to get some points on the board which could make all the difference at the end of the season. I'm really looking forward to Thruxton."

Team manager Bernie Toleman added: "I'm very proud of what the whole team has managed to achieve this weekend. Considering we've had so little time to put together whole package has performed extremely well.

"The S 1000 RR has proved it is a competive package in stock trim and the riders have been full of praise for the bike all weekend. Both Steve and Richard have shown they have the pace to fight for the title in their respective championships."
