17 & 18th /04/2010 - Thruxton qualifying and race reports
BOTH JOY AND FRUSTRATION FOR JENTIN RACING-BMW MOTORRAD
Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad riders Steve Brogan and Richard Cooper have experienced both joy and disappointment during free practice and qualifying at Thruxton's round of the MCE British Superbike Championship this weekend.
Due to an ongoing technical eligibility issue with the Evo Superbike spec-ECU, Brogan has been forced to race in the main Superbike championship this weekend and will lose a potential 50 points to his Evo rivals but the team are assured the issue will be fixed and Brogan will be back in the Evo class at Oulton Park.
Meanwhile, in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 series, Richard Cooper has qualified on the second row for tomorrow's race and has found a setup he says will enable him to get away with the front pack. The Nottingham man has also been practicing his starts and is confident of a good result at the Hampshire track.
Cooper added: "I'm much happier and faster, than I was yesterday in practice. We tried setting the bike up a lot stiffer yesterday, copying the way Steve had been going with the Evo bike. To be honest this really wasn't the right way as Steve weighs a lot more than I do!
"In qualifying today we started by going softer with the suspension. The bike was working really well and was much easier to ride. We're on the second row, and I've been practising my starts, so I'm confident that I'll get away with the front runners and be in the mix."
JENTIN RACING - BMW MOTORRAD SECOND ROUND RESULTS FROM THRUXTON
Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad riders Steve Brogan and Richard Cooper had a tough time at this weekend's Thruxton British Superbike round with Brogan forced to forfeit EVO Superbike points on technical grounds and Cooper's race setup not going according to plan.
Brogan had to ride in the main Superbike class instead of EVO because of continuing problems with the spec-ECU not quite gelling with the S 1000 RR's electronics. Cooper, meanwhile, says that he didn't complete a run of race-distance laps in practice, which meant his setup for the 15-lapper was not quite right.
Cooper added: "The team deserved a better result from me today. I should be finishing higher than thirteenth. I've been on the pace all weekend, I was third fastest in warm-up and have been able to achieve fast laps in practice and qualifying over short runs so we know that the bike, and rider, is capable of being competitive.
"I made a decent start and was running fourth for a couple of laps and felt comfortable and relaxed, and was quite confident that a podium was on the cards. But while I'd been able to run a few fast laps in practice, I hadn't time to put in a longer run and it soon became apparent that the setup I'd chosen really didn't work over race distance.
"But we've learnt that lesson now and will go away with a positive attitude knowing what we need to do for the next round at Oulton Park."
