More updates will follow shortly with details of new sponsors supporting Richard for this year......

09/02/2012 - Coop undergoes intensive winter training & aims to tame 'The Beast'

Despite the winter period being a time of rest for the fans, the work doesn't stop for riders looking to stay race fit come the new season. Richard has been maintaining a busy schedule of mountain biking, gym work and running for general fitness, plus trials riding & pit biking to keep 'bike fit'.

February has seen more focus on a scientific approach after a visit to Lincoln University to use their facilities for fitness assessment. After a tough day of exhaustive tests, the staff were able to use the data to target areas that will help physical and mental race performance.

A less scientific test takes place on Sunday 26th February when Richard enters an event called 'The Beast' wearing his familiar 47 race number. All sponsorship money raised will be donated to:

Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance

 - 'The Beast is a Double or Quit trail race of approximately 5 or 10 miles. The course includes steep hills, water, mud, 32 obstacles usually tackled by animals of a 4 legged variety, hills, a couple of surprises, oh and did we mention water?...'

19/01/2012 - What does the 2012 season hold?

With many teams deals and signings agreed, and others still taking place for many riders in readiness for the new season, I am also currently in talks with a team that will see me increase my coverage and profile to make an exciting 2012. I can't really say much more than that at the moment except it will be worth waiting for!...............check back soon for an update.

Season update.....3/10/2011 - Metzeler National 1000 Superstock Champion & 'Stars at Darley' crown

It's been a busy season with a few ups & downs but thankfully, mostly ups!

Firstly, highlight of the season and the main goal was the Metzeler National 1000 Superstock Champion title that Richard secured at round 11 - Silverstone. A massive sigh of relief was short lived however after two bikes and a truck load (literally) of spares was stolen from the teams base on the night after race day. The bikes were recovered but the parts are proving harder to track down.

Not wanting to dwell on the negatives, another 'up' was the 'Stars at Darley' meeting where Coop, once again beat allcomers including John McGuinness & Ian Lougher but was pushed harder than in recent years by fellow 2011 Buildbase BMW rider Barry Burrell. Still, all's fair in love and war, and the first rule of racing is beat your team mate!

The rest of the season has generally been a positive one with the team working well and getting the results. A slight down was the Superbike rider's season, John Laverty & Ian Lowry both experienced problems - both mechanical and injury which put an end to their successes. John parted company with the team at the Cadwell meeting to pursue a Kawasaki BSB ride - the best of luck to John for 2012.

Meanwhile Ian remains at home in Ireland recovering from extensive injuries - again best wishes go out to Ian for a speedy and full recovery in time for the 2012 season.
Barry Burrell has continued to push the Evo bike to podium places week in week out and will hopefully retain the current 3rd place in the Championship.

At the time of writing, the final BSB round is set to take place at Brands in the next few days. With Coop having won the Superstock title, the meeting will see him ride in both Superstock and Superbike classes, so a busy weekend is planned and hopefully a continued streak of success for the team.

9th-11th /03/2011 - BMW Motorrad S1000RR Race Camp

A hugely productive test was had at the recent BMW Motorrad Race Camp. The Castelioli Circuit near to Barcelona was the venue where the invited teams were gathered for three days.

The team gelled and worked well and ensured race distance sessions were completed to evaluate and set-up the S1000RR with the Bitubo suspension that will be used this season. Interestingly enough, Richard often felt his 2010 Bitubo equipped pre-production test bike easier to ride than the Ohlins kitted race bike!

The Buildbase team's close involvement with Bitubo over recent years has ensured that the latest information from world and domestic level racing gets filtered down to benefit the riders on Bitubo kitted machines and the times from the test showed this to be the case. See more of Bitubo products at http://www.bitubo.com/

The 2011 S1000RR also has a heavier crank than the previous years model which was felt to tame the huge power that is made, even in a relatively stock engine giving greater race comfort and control.

With the first race at Brands looming and a couple more UK test sessions due beforehand, Richard is confident of being on the pace from the start and making sure the 2011 Championship trophy has his name firmly inscribed into it! - Keep checking back for the latest results and updates. See testing pics HERE

New Year Update - Looking forward to a successful season

Press release from Hawk Racing - Buildbase BMW

John Laverty is the latest rider to confirm his place on the 2011 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship grid as it was confirmed at Motorcycle Live in Birmingham, that the team would switch to BMW machinery for the 2011 eason after running with Kawasaki for over a decade.

Laverty returns for a third season with Stuart Hicken's team and is joined by Barry Burrell who moves to the Evo class after a promising year in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship. Richard Cooper remains in the Superstock class as BMW aim for a second consecutive championship title.

Cooper said: "This is the perfect package for the 2011 season and I am coming back to retain the Superstock Championship for BMW. The BMW was the bike to win with in the Superstock class in 2010 and I won't be settling for anything less than wins and the title."

I think running across the classes will also give the team a good level of information and we should be able to move forward quickly. It would be great to test in Superstock trim for the first time, so then I will have a better understanding of what we can work on when we start testing. The BMW is a proven package in the World Superbike Championship so hopefully we can transfer that to BSB. The whole team is aiming higher for next season, so the aim is to move up to the next level."

Burrell added: "It is a great opportunity to step up into the Evo class after the season in the Superstock 1000 Championship. The BMW is the winning package this year in the Superstock and Evo class so hopefully we can make it two consecutive titles. Myself and Richard will probably be able to share some data so that will speed up the development work."

10/10/2010 - Frustrating times for the season Finale

The final round at Oulton ended a season of ups and downs for Richard. After being unable to race at Silverstone due to an extended recovery period for the broken thumb, Richard was also prevented from riding in the re-scheduled Round 11 race (also held at Oulton this weekend on the Saturday) due to a technicality.

Richard said: "Given the lack of track time I had - a damp session on Friday slowed everything down - we didn't have much time to set the bike up. But I came through from 11th on the grid to finish sixth. And I'm very pleased to be back racing again! I think the Jentin team have been fantastic both this weekend and all year - thank you to every one of them."

30/08/2010 - A little pain & a lot of pleasure at Cadwell Park

Sporadic rain, high winds and a broken thumb couldn't stop Richard and Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad as the team leave Cadwell Park with a Superstock 1000 race win and a new lap record.

Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad's Superstock 1000 rider returned to racing with a bang at Cadwell Park following a three-race break to recover from an arm pump operation. Richard rode his BMW S 1000 RR hard to secure his first Superstock pole position on Saturday and followed it up with his first Superstock win of the season - despite racing with what turned out to be a painfully broken thumb from his wind-assisted fall in qualifying.

Richard got a good start and held onto second place behind fellow BMW rider Jon Kirkham until lap five when he got a good drive out of Barn to pass at Coppice, leading the race until the chequered flag fell.

24/08/2010 - Post-op test is a success

The bank holiday weekend's racing will see the much-anticipated return for Richard Cooper alongside fellow Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad riders Steve Brogan and Tristan Palmer. Tristan, who has been standing in for Richard, is staying on with the team for the remainder of the season and will compete alongside Cooper in the Superstock championship.

23/07/2010 - Arm pump operation complete

Richard is back at home now and recovering after a successful operation to both arms to relieve the arm pump problem. The operation was straightforward and went well, all that is needed now is some R&R to get back to fitness and ready to get back on the bike. The stitches are scheduled to be removed in the coming week and as luck would have it there is a Hyperbaric chamber locally in Nottingham which will speed up the recovery time after a few sessions.
Richard is hopeful for a return to the Jentin Racing / BMW Motorrad team at Cadwell Park on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Only then will it be clear if the operation has had the required effect and stops the problem re-occurring. Click HERE for more pictures.

16/07/2010 - Arm pump operation due

COOP GOES UNDER THE KNIFE TO GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS.....
Richard is preparing for an operation in Belgium on Friday 16th July. Cooper has been suffering from arm pump for some time which ruled him out of the Knockhill & Snetterton rounds and has hindered his performance pretty much all year. Former BSB rider and current Superstock competitor Tristan Palmer will be running Richard's BMW S 1000 RR machine in the Superstock races in the meantime.

Richard said: It's something I didn't really suffer from on the R1 last year, or even in the physically draining World Endurance events on the BMW HP2 race bike. The huge amount of power of the S1000RR gets harder to hang on to as the race draws on and is only made worse if you're my size although I know Jon (Kirkham) suffered with it too at Thruxton. I'm looking forward to getting back on the bike, being able to ride it to it's fullest and getting to the front of the pack where I should be.

Bernie Toleman, Team Manager said: Richard's all set for the operation which will eliminate his arm pump issues. In the mean time we've got Tristan Palmer filling in for him. Richard will be off for a few weeks to recover but he'll be back on the bike at the last three or four rounds.

17th & 18th/04/2010  - Thruxton Qualifying & Race

Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad riders Steve Brogan and Richard Cooper had a tough time at this weekend's Thruxton British Superbike round with Brogan forced to forfeit EVO Superbike points on technical grounds and Cooper's race setup not going according to plan.

Brogan had to ride in the main Superbike class instead of EVO because of continuing problems with the spec-ECU not quite gelling with the S 1000 RR's electronics. Cooper, meanwhile, says that he didn't complete a run of race-distance laps in practice, which meant his setup for the 15-lapper was not quite right....... Click HERE for the full report

05/04/2010 - Brands Hatch Indy Race

After some inclement weather in qualifying, Richard is 'relatively' happy with his result (8th) in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race this morning after being third fastest in morning warm up.

Starting the race from the middle of the grid, Richard gradually fought his way through the pack until a big slide saw him relegated from fifth to eighth right at the death........ Click HERE for the full report
