Buildbase BMW Motorrad rider Barry Burrell moves up to second place in BSB-EVO championship.

The Buildbase BMW Motorrad team are looking forward to better weather and a chance to get out on track for the cancelled second BSB and BSB-EVO race from Oulton Park. This weekend's racing had looked very promising with Superstock 1000 racer Richard Cooper on pole, British Superbike racer Ian Lowry setting quick lap times and BSB-EVO contender Barry Burrell qualifying third in class.

However the weather worsened and track conditions deteriorated, as heavy rain began to fall constantly on the Cheshire circuit. Barry Burrell struggled to find rear grip on the sodden track but rode well to bring his BMW S 1000 RR back home in one piece and sixth in the EVO class. British Superbike rider Ian Lowry retired from the first Superbike race with a minor mechanical issue.

Richard Cooper started well in the Superstock 1000 race but was forced to run wide on the first lap. However, Cooper fought his way back through the field to finish in fourth place when the race was ended at half distance, with the race officials awarding half points to all finishing competitors.

Stuart Hicken, team principal, said: "It's been an interesting weekend once again with some real highs and lows.We leave Oulton Park with Richard in a secure third place in Superstock and Barry Burrel moving up to second place in the BSB-EVO class.

Richard delivered a solid ride again and fought his way back up from eighth place after being forced to run off on the first lap to finish fourth. He's now 9.5 points behind the lead rider in the Superstock 1000 championship. Barry wasn't quite as strong as he could have been in the race, but the good news is that the riders behind him didn't score any points so he's consolidated his place in the EVO championship. It's a shame about Ian retiring but better safe than sorry in these conditions.

"We've had Berti Hauser from BMW Motorrad Motorsports management - the former head of the World Superbike team - with us this weekend and he's been very helpful. Berti is incredibly knowledgeable and has lots of valuable experience with the BMW S 1000 RR. We've got to completely rebuild a Superbike for John following his crash in free practice and I think we'll be doing so using some of Berti's advice and knowledge.

"John's condition is improving, he's stable and he's had two good nights rest since the incident. His wife has flown in to spend some time with him and he's going to have a routine procedure done to repair his ankle. He's in high spirits and, for a man who hit a wall at 100mph, he's in quite good shape. I think he's glad he went in feet first!"

Following Oulton Park there is a three week break ahead of the next race at Brands Hatch GP. The cancelled second Superbike race from Oulton will be added to the bill for Cadwell Park over the weekend of 27-29 August.
